The Stride

In 2005, I was sitting at my table eating breakfast. Though I don't do this anymore, up until that time I always read the back of either the cereal box or the drink carton. That morning I was reading about Amanda Bloomer on the back of Silk's Chocolate Soy Milk carton. In the 1840's Amanda Bloomer and Elizabeth Cady Stanton began to wear, as they called it, "rational" clothing which were loose pants gathered at the ankle under a knee-length skirt. The back of the milk carton held a quip about how women literally were taking strides in fashion and in their lives. The word "stride" really caught my attention. It was then that I wanted to create a site or organization to help put women in touch with one another so that we could empower each other to make a difference. I was always amazed at how the little individual acts always add up to make a huge difference. Maybe not a first, but sometime down the road.
